As a friend of John Fahey, Max Ochs was involved in the formation of Takoma Records in Berkeley, California in the early-1960s, mingling also with Mississippi John Hurt, who tutored the young man. In the 2000s, Ochs has also created music alongside Neil Harpe, who himself is known particularly as a specialist in Stella / Oscar Schmidt guitars.
