Overview

Rockin’ Chair Blues’ original recording is much clearer than some of Petway’s other songs like Cotton Pickin’ Blues, which is a nice boost and help. Overall though, as with many of Petway’s recordings, it follows for the most part the same structure; in fact, nearly identical. It’s nice to hear the different renditions he made of this particular form of blues he used, just to get a deeper grasp of his style.

Well my baby, my baby she says she bought me

Get back now baby she says, she gonna, rock away from here

I says now look baby
Baby don’t you rock so soon
I says look here now baby
Honey don’t you rock so soon
If you now little woman

She rocks me in the morning, she rocks me a little before day

Well rock me slow now mama, well I can’t come back to Chicago no more

She my baby said love, ain’t gonna rock me no more
Well my baby, my baby say, ain’t gonna rock me no more
